The "Typical" Adopting Family?
We came here thinking that there was probably a "typical" family we'd meet on the trip and that we'd be on the odd ones out. You know, late 30’s going to get their first baby after years of trying to get pregnant or single movie star moms.
How wrong we were. While there were a relatively large number of Prius drivers, similarities stopped there. The faces of these new families were not nearly as predictable as we imagined. And we feel lucky to have met some really great people.
- The couple getting their 2nd daughter, but planning to request their third child from the grandparents village.
- The single mom nearing 50 wishing she had done this 15 years earlier
- The mid-30’s couple who didn’t even try bio and went straight to adoption because it’s just what they wanted to do.
- The couple who woke up 30 years into their careers to realize something was missing
- First time parents picking up a new baby who, based on the size of her new mom’s belly, is about 4 months away from becoming an older sister
- The couple with a high school son and a tweener who decided about a year ago that they actually weren’t done with kids quite yet
- ….and the family with 3 boys that was desperately missing a little sister…..
And despite our differences we now all have one thing in common. The sweetest spicy Hunan girls you could imagine…..
